This Banned Book Project seeks to acknowledge books that have been challenged or banned around the world. A challenged book has been flagged by a concerned citizen and taken under review. Most challenged books remain on library shelves but might be placed in a restricted area. A banned book has been removed from circulation. This can happen on a local or national level. Yes, some books have been banned by a government or regime.

Each book bio gives reasons for the challenge, ban, or removal of the title from library shelves or elsewhere. The book bios include a list of references for further reading and research.
